Hong Kong Bites Part II: Street Food @ Soy Street 豉油街

Our street food adventures continues in Soy Street 豉油街 . .
We found this particular stall a few walking distance after the Mongkok MTR exit, you can never missed any street food stalls in Hong Kong due to its remarkable strong Stinky Tofu aroma :p

Street Stall 1
Chun Mei Mei Street Stall 真美味

Sorry for this strange angle view of the stall as the owner did not allow me to take any photo after I took a few snapshot of their food :(

Curry Fish Ball 咖喱魚蛋 . . a must try in Hong Kong !

You can find all kinds of meat skewers and grilled seafood here at the street food stalls in Hong Kong. Beef tripes . . Beef balls . . Fish Cakes . . pork skin . . All types of sausages . . Pork Bacon . . Stinky Toufu

Seafood on Sticks (to be grilled)

Now the verdict . .

Grilled Squid on a Stick
Rating: Taste ♥ Texture ♥ Value for money ♥ Overall
HKD 17 per stick

Well, the overall shiny glaze and color makes it looks tastier than it turns out to be. The squid was less chewy but tough :( The only nice about this is it is served to you hot.

Curry Fish Balls
Rating: Taste ♥ Texture ♥ Value for money ♥ Overall
HKD 11 for 2 sticks/HKD 8 for 1 stick

These tasted way better than the ones we have in Malaysia :p All because it has a stronger curry taste. In terms of texture, strangely it tasted more like our keropok lekor ikan.

Mini sausages wrapped with Bacon
Deep Fried pork intestine
Rating: Taste ♥♥ Texture ♥♥ Value for money ♥♥ Overall ♥
HKD 17 per stick

The mini sausages turned out to be pretty standard, however it would be perfect if I had a delicious sauce to go with it :) The deep fried pork intestine was an interesting choice. I would say it is not recommended for the weak heart :p It has an extremely strong after taste, similar to those of stinky toufu.

Overall rating of Street Stall 1 : ♥

Few walks further down the street, we saw a small crowd gathering in front of this stall. This somehow brings back our light and hope of Hong Kong Street Food :p

Street Stall 2
Mankee Snacks文記

They offered more variety of choices and price too are slightly cheaper here :D

 More seafood !

Hong Kong favorite Stinky Tofu aka "Chou Tao Fu" 臭豆腐

These delicious looking vegetable dumpling caught my attention. However, the amount of oil they used to fry these dumplings was really . . . not so healthy ! But yeah, i still tried them :P

For this particular stall, they will provide you a cash coupon upon payment. I believe they practice this to cater for bigger crowd in order to get things more organized.

Got my HKD 12 . . now waiting for my delicious vegetable dumplings . . yay !

Pan-Fried Vegetable Dumplings
Rating: Taste ♥ Texture ♥ Value for money ♥ Overall
HKD 12 for 5 pieces

It is indeed oily but finger licking good ! Love the chewy and extra crispy exterior of the dumpling ! The flour was of the right thickness and it is generously filled with garlic chives and a tiny pinch of ginger.

Assorted Deep Fried Fritters
Rating: Taste ♥ Texture ♥ Value for money ♥ Overall
HKD 20 for any 8 pieces

Overall rating of Street Stall 2 :

Yumz . . Definitely more street food for us ahead !

Hong Kong Bites Part I: Xiang Ge Li La "Shangri La" Rice Noodle 香格里拉米線專門店

Hello Hong Kong!

It's my first trip here with the BF. . excited !! After we checked-in our stay in Mong Kok, we wandered around for food of course ! We walked a couple of streets ahead to Tung Choi Street and found a hidden gem! This place was not in our planned itinerary.

Despite it's already past midnight, the place is still brightly lit up and looking busy with all the crowd. The main entrance door was filled with photos of the Hong Kong TVB celebrities who had tried the place before.

All these signs obviously telling us to come in and try it out already! LOL

The Menu.

The BF patiently waiting for his meal

In HK, certain cafe/restaurant serves you Chinese Tea in cups, but most of the time they are used to rinse your eating utensil. An interesting practice !

Here it comes . . !

Rice Noodle with Bacon
served with the original clear soup base
Rating: Taste ♥♥♥♥ Texture ♥♥♥ Value for money ♥♥♥ Overall ♥
HKD 26

The main highlight of this dish is non other than the broth! The first slurp in your mouth literally makes you scream OMG-WOW! It has all the richness and natural sweetness from the pork. The silky rice noodles gives your tongue a smooth and delightful experience. Topped with the generous portion of bacon, perfectly fried with brown crisp on the side, the balanced saltiness and its chewy texture is just so yumm-O !

Highly recommended

Picture says it all . . check out the BF's expression after tasting his first slurp of the soup ! :P

A must try . . !
